This is an article i wrote one day for a friends website concerning the cow level in diablo 1, and possibilities of a cow level in diablo 2. THIS IS OLD, I KNOW ABOUT THE COW LEVEL IN DIABLO 2. I left this article as intact as i could, so don't send me an e-mail at mm@gamecop.com because it doesn't exist. and where i would have a link to the screenshot, it may still exist... but i'm not in the mood to spend hours looking for it. so tough luck!

You may already be asking this by the title of this article, as many, if not all, of you already have heard of the mythical cowlevel, and may have even tried to get there yourself.

The Cowlevel is supposedly a level with all cows as enemies, or a set of levels. (I have also heard from somewhere you are riding the cows). The Cowlevel is supposedly MUCH harder than the normal game, and incredibly hard to get to. In this article I don't plan to tell you how to get there because I don't know how, or if it even exists, but I plan to discuss more on the screenshot for Diablo 2 blizzard put out quite some time ago with big killer cows. I am here to discuss what I have heard about the cowlevel and what I think about a "Cowlevel 2" in Diablo 2.

How did the thought of a cowlevel ever enter a player's mind in the first place? I have no idea, BUT I have heard through the grapevine that around version 1.00-1.02 that people looking to take some stuff from other players would tell someone about the "cowlevel" and how great it was, then tell them how to get there. Getting there would include casting a townportel spell in-between the cows in town (using cheats to enable them to cast spells in town. also known as "Town kill") dropping EVERYTHING they were wearing and was in their inventory including all their gold rings etc. everything. Then entering the portal (might been something other special you had to do but I don't remember. I do know some other ways to get there had you kill Diablo before you enter. Or killing every monster in the game on every level including barrels and stuff and Diablo before entering it)

Anyway, they would enter and the other person would take all their stuff and leave. There are many other ways people have used to get to the cowlevel (or so they say) but I don't feel like explaining them all here (or finding a site that still has info on it). If you want more info try cowlevel.com (if the site is still there)

Somehow the word spread about the cowlevel and now probably every seasoned battle.net diablo player has heard about it. Although it'd be cool if there was a cowlevel, the fact is there's a 99.9% chance that it's all fake. (If you beg to differ than e-mail me)

As for "Cowlevel 2" in Diablo 2 with an actual screenshot of it, that is different. We actually have something to discuss here.

History: Well it started around the beginning of April, when Blizzard released that week's screenshot of the week. (Can be see here) featuring killer cows. With the obvious history of the cowlevel, who could keep their mind from thinking about a "cowlevel 2"?

Possible explanations for the above screenshot:
1. Blizzard thought it would be funny to make us think about the cowlevel more seriously
2. These killer cows are just real enemies you'll find along your journeys
3. Blizzard actually made a Cowlevel in Diablo 2 since it was so popular (even thought it didn't exist) in Diablo.

Although I am sure Blizzard thought the cowlevel funny and very popular I doubt they'd put a cowlevel in diablo2, and since I doubt they'd go through all the trouble of adding a cow enemy and putting it in the game just to take a screenshot to make us think and try to find a non-existent cowlevel. I myself have concluded they have made an actual enemy (for lack of a name) "the killer cow" and have implemented it into certain areas of the game. Nothing more.

If you think otherwise, I'd love to hear what you think. Send me some mail by clicking here or sending an e-mail to mm@gamecop.com.
