Loaded the PC copy of Borderlands on Steam yesterday and have been playing it frantically ever since. The first thing you notice when you play the game is that your level makes a world of difference. I was in a 3 player game, all of us were level 5-6 and we were cutting through the normal creatures like butter. We take a wrong turn and encounter several level 8-9 creatures and we go from doing 20-50 damage per shot to 2-4 damage per shot.
Needless to say, we wiped several times after inadvertently leading them back to our spawn point.
I find it hard not to use MMO terms when describing this game. (wiped, mobs, DOT - Damage over Time, etc.) It plays very much like a small 4 person version of any standard MMO in that the quests or tasks you are given are very bland "retrieve 4 stolen items" or "kill X number of creatures" or "kill so and so boss creature". I will say that while playing in the 3 person game (90% of my game time to this point) we didn't really bother to read the quest text that much, maybe there was something more significant to the quests if you actually read the text.
It is VERY fun and easy to waste hours playing. we started playing around 7pm or so and didn't check the clock until around 2am, and then kept playing until 3am anyway. Once you start getting the more powerful guns, it gets even more fun. Right now I just got a new pistol that can unload it's entire 26 round clip in about 1.5 seconds. Works quite nicely with an item I have that regenerates pistol ammo. It's not the most accurate thing because of just how fast it shoots, but it's fun to use at close range.
One of my favorite things to do right now is use a gun that has good fire damage, shoot them until they ignite, then watch as the creatures bleed orange numbers from them as they literally melt away from the fire damage.

| Firefox likes to take 100% width and force it onto a new line, and * width to mean take only as much as it needs. This text is in here to force FF to display 100% the same way that IE does. Ghetto fix FTW! OMG! a hidden counter! Views:
